Six months ago, two UK entrepreneurs joined forces to create a unique product in support of a charitable cause.

Niamh Barker, Founder of The Travelwrap Company and health and wellbeing guru, Liz Earle MBE, combined their passion and interests to design ‘The Wellbeing Wrap’.

This Fairisle design made with the finest 100% cashmere was knitted and hand finished in Scotland. Priced at £248, the limited edition piece of affordable luxury has proved popular with customers.

All profits from the sale have been donated to CAMDA, the only UK registered charity to support low-income Mongolian nomadic families whose livelihoods depend on herd animals.

Niamh and Liz are delighted to announce that £2,498 has been raised, enabling CAMDA to build six wells that directly impact livelihoods by reducing poverty and hardship among the herding communities that live in extreme climatic conditions.

Niamh Barker comments, “Our collaboration with Liz Earle Wellbeing brought together an ethos of wellness and ethical business and we are thrilled to be making a difference to the livelihood of Mongolian herders. Our Scottish mill, founded more than 200 years ago, plays an important role in maintaining the tradition of local craftsmanship and is the only one in the UK still able to transform cashmere from raw fibre to finished garment.”

The inspiration for the wrap came from Liz’s new venture Liz Earle Wellbeing, her print and online magazine focused on wellbeing wisdom and sustainable living. In designing The Wellbeing Travelwrap, Liz focused on her trademark colours of pink and green knitted into a beautiful fairisle print.

Liz comments, “Liz Earle Wellbeing came together with the Travelwrap Company to create a very special limited edition piece in genuinely sustainable and ethical cashmere. I’m absolutely delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile cause through this project - the profits from the wrap’s sale will help make a real difference to rural communities in Mongolia.”

The provision of better living and working conditions for low-income nomadic herders in Mongolia is at the heart of CAMDA’s support efforts. The charity strives to give a better future to over 150,000 herder households, with projects that concentrate on building and repairing wells and providing mechanised grass-cutting equipment for crop collections.

Bill Munns of CAMDA says, “We are grateful to Niamh and Liz for their joint initiative and for their generous donation to our project in Mongolia where conditions are harsh and livestock still the mainstay support for rural communities. A large proportion of the livestock that depend on the water from the wells that will be built, are goats and their cashmere is a major contribution to herder income and the livelihood of these vulnerable rural communities”.
