Cyclist Dame Sarah Storey is known for her spectacular performance at the Paralympics, however she is set for further record-breaking achievements in Rio this year.
As it stands, she holds 11 Paralympics gold medals, leaving her tied with Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, a retired wheelchair racer.
Just one more title in Rio and she will officially become Britian’s most decorated female Paralympian!
Despite her sensational success, she remains modest and laughs off any attempt at calling her the greatest.
“Tanni won four golds in Barcelona 1992 when I was there as a swimmer. Chris Holmes won six at those Games. I looked up to them.
“They’ll always be on my pedestal. It doesn’t matter what you say, they’ll always be way up there and I’ll be down here.
“If you had told me in 1992 that I’d be on the verge of breaking Tanni’s record, I’d have probably laughed.”
In a world of such fierce and cutthroat competition, it’s truly wonderful to see such a healthy mix of support, encouragement and competitiveness.
“Tanni is an icon of the sport as far as I’m concerned. She is a mentor of mine, even to this day.”
This is proof that women can be supportive of each other in their professional fields.
